It’s about better data, not big data, deep learning pioneer Ng says

Andrew Ng, founder and CEO of Landing AI, is advocating for a “data-centric AI” approach. Ng argues that the key differentiator between businesses that are successful at AI and those that aren’t is the data used to train the algorithm, how it’s gathered and processed, and how it’s governed. He believes that “the shift to data-centric AI” is the most important shift businesses need to make today to fully leverage AI.

Ng suggests that with carefully prepared data, companies may need far less of it than they think. He also emphasizes the importance of data consistency and the ongoing cycle of data curation, improvement, and retraining the AI on updated data.

Ng’s insights align with a recent report from consulting firm Accenture, which found that only 12% of 1,200 companies globally have advanced their AI maturity to the stage where they are seeing superior growth and business transformation.
