In August 2023, Asana’s Work Innovation Lab undertook a survey, engaging with over 4,500 individuals, ranging from individual contributors to middle and senior managers, and executives in the UK and US. This study aimed to provide actionable insights, assisting leaders to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace.
The report offers several key insights:
- AI Adoption and Use: AI adoption is widespread, but daily power users are few. Only 36% of employees use AI weekly, and a mere 4% use it multiple times daily.
- Transparency and Trust: There is a significant concern regarding transparency in AI usage by companies, with only 32% of employees feeling their company has been transparent about its use of AI.
- Optimism and Concerns: There is a strong optimism about AI, with 52% believing it will help their company achieve objectives more effectively. However, there are concerns about ethical use and perceptions of AI.
- AI’s Potential and Challenges: The report highlights AI’s potential in data analysis, administrative tasks, and creativity. It also notes the challenges, including the need for more training, policies, and guidelines on AI use.
- Human-Centered AI: Understanding and embracing human-centered AI is key, with those who understand it more likely to view AI positively.
The report underscores the need for a balanced and informed approach to AI integration in the workplace, emphasising transparency, ethical considerations, and human-centered AI strategies.
